Comtek Advanced Structures (Comtek) is an industry leader specializing in the design, engineering and manufacturing of aerospace structural and interior parts made from advanced composite materials. We also provide repair services for these parts, primarily to airlines. We are focused on the international aerospace and defense market and we believe that the opportunities in this market at the present time offer us a large and exciting range of opportunities to facilitate rapid and profitable growth. Our significant investment in Research & Development has yielded breakthrough, patentable technology advances that have already been applied in new product development on the Airbus A380, the largest transport aircraft in the world. Going forward, our intellectual property strategy calls for planned technology development on a continued basis, in partnership with selected universities and research institutions, and this work will result in a series of new patent applications as we continue to innovate.
Our investment in a second location in Burlington in 2006 has positioned the company for an accelerated expansion of our business in commercial aircraft parts manufacturing and repair. Comtek's investment will permit us to rapidly build our business and provide diversification opportunities for Comtek, complementing our commercial activities and leveraging our technology.
While aerospace and defense remains our primary operational focus, we are finding exciting opportunities to leverage our technology in other market sectors. A licensing agreement has been signed with a strategic partner in the building construction industry, for example, and discussions are underway with potential licensees in the automotive and trucking industries. Other targeted industries include marine, armor, transportation infrastructure, recreational, medical and utilities - all areas where composites are being increasingly used.
