A Dedication to Advanced Technology
Comtek specializes in providing manufacturing, engineering and repair services for aircraft components made from advanced composite materials, and for bonded metallic structures. The use of advanced composites on aircraft is rapidly increasing due to its light weight, reduced part count, good fatigue properties and resistance to corrosion. As an advanced technology company with a focus on the practical application of composites, Comtek is highly sensitive to the needs of both aircraft manufacturers and operators for services that emphasize innovation, creativity, responsiveness, flexibility and speed of response.
Comtek's state-of-the-art facilities comprise of two plants in Burlington, Ontario. Plant 1 is 35,000 square feet. Plant 2, which is next door to Plant 1, is 26,000 square feet.
Having developed proprietary technology through its R&D projects, Comtek maintains a substantial capability to apply these results to innovative new processes and products through a supremely talented engineering team.

State of the art Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools are used for new product development. The use of software such as CATIA, the recognized aerospace standard for CAD platforms, enables the company to interface directly with its OEM and Tier 1 customers, share three-dimensional computer models and data, assemble virtual mock-ups, and pass electronic design data directly to CNC manufacturing hardware in a seamless manner.

For the structural analysis and airworthiness substantiation of its new products, Comtek uses the MSC/NASTRAN finite element package which is the standard for aerospace analysis. This software is used to rapidly iterate through design alternatives and optimize the structure to carry the design loads. We can analyze strength and stiffness, simulate failure modes and optimize for minimum weight and ease of manufacture. As with CATIA, NASTRAN enables the company to share its data and simulation results with its OEM and Tier 1 customers. |

Comtek has its own in-house test laboratory for materials and process testing, structural development tests (static and fatigue), environmental conditioning of test coupons and flammability testing. Our test facilities complement our analysis and simulation tools as part of our integrated engineering and development capability. Tight process control is essential to producing high quality components that meet stringent weight targets while achieving specified strength and stiffness. Comtek's investment in state-of-the art facilities and equipment provide strict adherence to the highest industry standards. As well, Comtek invests heavily in training to maintain a highly skilled workforce, including a three-year apprenticeship program for our Composite Technicians.
Comtek maintains our leadership position in advanced materials technology through an active program of research and development, maintaining close relationships with a significant number of partners in the university and government research communities.
